A nice little post from snark wife up in Dallas.

Father went to college: Yes
Father finished college: Yes, Oklahoma
Mother went to college: mmm. Yes
Mother finished college: Yes. St John’s Nursing College
Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor: Nope
Were the same or higher economic class than your high school teachers: Same
Had more than 50 books in your childhood home: yes
Had more than 500 books in your childhood home: no
Were read children’s books by a parent: no
Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18: swimming? And some great success they were. I had to take swimming lessons again in the Navy. But then again, those were sort of advanced lessons.
Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18: no
The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively: yes
Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18: no
Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs: no
Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs: no
Went to a private high school: no
Went to summer camp: no
Had a private tutor before you turned 18: no
Family vacations involved staying at hotels: no. The only vacations I remember involved visiting relatives. And staying at their houses.
Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18: Yes. But that’s because I was the boy. My two older sisters has some hand-me-down action going on.
Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them: no. My dad tried to have a car of his hauled off to the dump, but I got it and fixed it.
There was original art in your house when you were a child: no. Well, unless you count the ship painting my dad bought in germany from a starving artist because it had his initials on it. He still has that. knife cut in the center of it and all.
Had a phone in your room before you turned 18: no
You and your family lived in a single family house: yes
Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home: no
You had your own room as a child: yes, mostly. when I was very small I shared with one of my sisters.
Participated in an SAT/ACT prep course: no
Had your own TV in your room in High School: yes. Because I bought it with money I earned at MY job.
Owned a mutual fund or IRA in High School or College: no
Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16: no. military flights yeah. but not commercial.
Went on a cruise with your family: no
Went on more than one cruise with your family: hell no
Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up: no
You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family: no. but i did get yelled out to turn out the lights, or close doors, et cetera.

I don’t know how to tell if it means I was spoiled or not.


  1. Of course you were spoiled! I’m sure that’s the lesson that Gus and his political fellow-travellers, for example John Edwards, want you to learn. (And to top it all off, your father was part of the machinery of government.) That’s why you really, really need to contribute more of your income to social welfare programs through enhanced taxation plans.
