Mlah: "maybe you need to go back and read it. there is NOT a nuclear war in iraq. the number of people dead, or the rate at which people are dieing do not make a civil war. your, and the left’s in general efforts to label it a civil war is political gamesmanship. it is a jedi mindtrick i will not fall for.
"it is NOT a nuclear war"
Why the hell are you talking about "nuclear" anything, dipshit?
What word or phrase would you use to describe the widespread violence based on political and/or territorial and/or sectarian reasons in Iraq? It's more than "civil unrest", I know that. Just because no one is minting alternative currency (and other things you brought up in a recent post that happened in America's Civil War) doesn't mean the term "civil war" isn't the best one to use. I await your alternative terms.

gus, your response to #1.

Just because it’s not identical to our own Civil War doesn’t change the fact that many Iraqis are killing each other.

"1 there is a civil war in iraq currently"
As a handy shorthand to describe at least some proportion of the internal violence in Iraq, it's fine. Just because it's not identical to our own Civil War doesn't change the fact that many Iraqis are killing each other.

"2 fox news in a conservative moutpiece"
Whatever, dude. If you're so fond of it, and you're a conservative, there must be a good reason for that.

"3 we did not win the war in iraq
4 we did not win the war in afghanistan"
We booted Saddam and the Taliban as gov'ts, hooray! But we are fighting major counter-insurgencies and both new central gov'ts are weak, with no end in sight.

"5 bush lied, people died"
He did, they did, and they keep on dying.

"6 saddam hussein had nothing to do with alqaida, or 9-11"
Oh, jeezus.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddam_Hussein_and_al-Qaeda
"The consensus of intelligence experts has been that these contacts never led to an operational relationship, and that consensus is backed up by reports from the independent 9/11 Commission, declassified Defense Department reports[3] as well as by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence..."

"7 iraq is a quamire"
Why not?
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/quagmire
"1.	an area of miry or boggy ground whose surface yields under the tread; a bog.
2.	a situation from which extrication is very difficult: a quagmire of financial indebtedness."
Our efforts haven't got much traction there so far, and getting out will, indeed, be difficult. When do you see peace arriving there?

"8 bush is stupid"
Certainly our least articulate modern president, and certainly unwise in many of his policies and appointments.

"9 bush is a sinister mastermind bringing about the end of democracy"
I've never believed that. He has had some funny ideas about the Constitution sometimes, though.

"10 hillary is a moderate"
She is not wildly out of touch with the beliefs of any thinking American. I'm a Kucinich fan myself-- she is not as cool as him in our eyes.

"11 obama is interesting"
Who said that was his selling point? He's smart as hell and pretty cool, but no, not terrifically interesting. But so what? He's at least as interesting as any of the major candidates from either party.

"12 it’s time for a change"
And a change is gonna come! The 2004 election was just a small sign of the changes yet to come. The Repubs can't agree on a candidate and that's gonna hurt you.

"13 bushco started the war in iraq to steal their oil"
I never really believed that, either, per se, but part of the plan was at least to open up their oil fields to private investment, including US companies.

"14 we torture prisoners in gtmo"
Obviously it depends on your definition of torture.

"15 the cia has secret prisons"
True, but that's just because they have been closed down.

"16 the republicans are trying to bring back the draft to fight their wars of imperialism"
I've never once heard that from a Dem or liberal. Rangel (D-NY) was the only person I've heard suggesting a draft, and he did that only as a rhetorical device.

"17 healthcare should be free"
We could save a lot of money and extend benefits to more people with a single-payer system. Most people would still have to pay into it.

"18 bush stole the election"
It was fishy.

"19 bush is/was trying to stack the supreme court to reverse roe v wade"
Of course. He had to pay back the evangelical vote somehow.
