D-Day + 1

Filed under: Personal — mlah @ 10:49 am

lucky lucky!

so yesterday i was supposed to start trying to get the hell out of afghanistan.

today i started.

i got lucky. i was waiting on an email from a coworker who will be in afghanistan shortly. i wanted to leave my body armor and helmet behind with him, just so we don’t both have to lug that crap half way around the world. literally!

i checke email first thing in the morning and got my lucky message.

so i made it to the shower and got the last final fuck you from afghanistan. no hot water. no freakin hot water! well, it was worse having to take a cold shower in the winter. so i endured.

so i hussled down to the pax terminal. and i got even more lucky! which i like to call ‘lucky lucky’. there were only 16 people waiting space available for a plane with a crap ton of seats.

i got my flight out and here i sit in Kuwait.

on the flight, after 3 hours or so, i got up to stretch and wandered over to one of the 4 porthole like windows on the ginormous plane and was lucky yet again. i just happened to look out as we flew by Dubai. I got to see an aerial view of that island / peninsula they are building out into the gulf. shaped like a palm tree. really. I just walked over and saw the only thing to see on the whole flight.

we landed, and i have to deal with the passport rigamoroll. and i got lucky yet again! i made the deadline to get my passport over to immigration by 5 minutes. this means i get my passport back tomorrow at 9 am, not 9pm.

now to try and move my flight up!

it’s been a good day!
