everyone know who winston churchill was?

does everyone know what he did? let me see. beat the nazis? save the world? keep ‘ultra’ secret? he did a lot of things to be sure. some call him the greatest briton.

anyone know what he really did?

he lied.

winston churchill was a liar.

an unapologetic very skillful liar.

and he saved the world by doing so.

Winston Churchill

let’s examine some evidence. dunkirk, brits run with their tails between their legs from the nazis and manage to get most of their forces back, without any of their equipment to speak of. the nazis made use of that equipment later in the war. the nazis were going wherever they wanted. they were bombing the british isles. and the english huddled in the uground for fear of the buzzbombs. they were downtrodden. they knew defeat was near. in this atmosphere j.r.r. tolkien wrote the books in the lord of the rings that dealt with frodo and sam journeying to mordor. can’t you just feel the despair in his writing?
winston called it a victory.

Winston Churchill
the hms hood. ‘cock’ of the british fleet is sunk after two shells fired by the bismarck. prince of wales runs. virtually the entire british fleet is subsequently rallied to ‘sink the bismarck’. they shell it, and german naval officers scuttle the bismarck for fear the brits will capture it.

winston calls it a victory. the whole brit navy? one ship? me beating my niece at chess is a great victory too

but the brits believed. they held their heads up just a little, and tried.

Winston Churchill

the prince of wales was sent to asia. it and the repulse were sunk by the japanese.

what does winston say to the papers? we’re winning!

Winston Churchill

and the limeys carried on. they worked in their factories and trained.

Winstonn Churchill

the japanese raced down the malay peninsula and captured singapore. they had already taken hong kong.

and winston continues with the lies. ‘we are winning’.

Winston Churchill

the brits were invading norway, and the germans beat them there by 2 days.

we’re winning.

and the brits followed. they went to work, while dodging bombs.

Winston Churchill

rommel pushes them back to egypt. the desert fox. outnumbered around 2 to 1. the brits eventually roll back his progress. when they achieved even higher numerical superiority. and then we came to help too.

we’re better than the master race. we’re winning. they can’t stop us.

and the church bells pealed with victory. again. and again.

Winston Churchill

and the british believed him. they believed they were winning. it’s all they heard and saw in the newspapers. they were winning. all of the radios reported it. except for the nazi radios. and of course they were liars.

winston said so.

Winston Churchill

beaten in poland. norway. holland. belgium. france. fled from dunkirk. beaten in crete. beaten in greece. beaten in yugoslavia. beaten in singapore. beaten in china. beaten in dieppe. london bombed. capital ships sunk by smaller navies.

and the papers all reported what winston said. we’re winning.

Winston Churchill

and the brits held their heads high. they worked hard. they kept trying. and they began to eek out real victories here and there. the raid on taranto. the battle of britain. the wolf packs being beaten back.
Winston Churchill

but somehow. winston just kept on lieing. and he got the press to report it as fact. the truth didn’t matter. and the people believed and excelled.

Winston Churchill

and the tide of war changed. winston didn’t do it all. there were a lot of russians, and americans, and brits fighting too, amongst others. but the tide did change. and with it,

our history changed.

i don’t speak german.

Winston Churchill

think about that the next time you watch the press reporting how we’re having our asses handed to us in iraq. the next time they pronounce guilty when no charges have yet been filed.

when the press keeps reporting how we’re losing. how we can’t win. QUAGMIRE! QUAGMIRE!

no. the press isn’t harming anyone. no. ‘we’re losing’ could never be taken by the other side as ‘pick your head up, we’re winning’. never.

winston churchill was a liar. as statesmen so often have to be. and he saved our asses.

could anyone be lieing now? why? to what end? i find it ironic that i don’t speak german, but i do speak arabic.

  1. but the fact that you can speak Arabic merely prepares you for the coming New World Order… 🙂

  3. Ok, SIR Winston was a liar, I agree

But was he a liar for the “good” cause?
World war II, was a good cause, but better cause than e.g. the Iraq war?
Of same nature, are Tonny and George than the same kind of liars?
Or don’t they tell lies, but they were not telling the truth?

    And about speaking German:
In the same period was that German guy telling the truth about wining the war?
    He lost.
    Did George and Tonny?

  4. Holland speaks German. But is Holland learning to speak Arabic like a good little dhimmi? Eeeek, don’t offend your Muslim minority, Holland, they’ll riot in the streets and decapitate you to teach you a lesson!

Take Holland’s point, though Mlah. Winston was a liar for the good side, while W and Blair are liars for the bad side. Snark!

  5. holland. you’re right, i purposely left those topics unanswered. and more. this is going to be a series here for the next week or two.

but some quick answers, to be expounded upon later.

of course winston was lieing in a good cause. tony and geaorge do not lie enough by my standards. machiavelli said it best, a leader shoud lie to his people.

yes the german was telling the truth about winning. if i go to asoccer game and observe that holland is beating the us 3-0 in the first period. and it is in fact the score. i am telling the truth. but whent he game is over and the us tanned hollands hide 7-3. that does not mean i lied in the first period about holland winning.

this post isn’t really about winston.

  6. mlah, Holland (the country) has just one goal: beat the Germans in the soccer game. Believe me, at this time there is a real media war going on between both countries and i cant hardly wait till the games commencing.

And this post isn’t really about out SIR either

  7. It’s official, Mlah. You are mentally retarded! This is wrong on so many levels. Let me count the ways.

    1) Your analogy rests on the baseless theory that Churchill’s rah-rah lying somehow saved the day. The levels of troop morale (either Axis & Allies) and public morale weren’t measured back then; and even if they had been, the degree to which Churchill’s lies affected them would be hard to tease out. You’re making shit up, in other words. Revisionist history at its finest. The fact is: the team with the best cheerleaders doesn’t always win– it’s the players and the plays they run that make the difference.

    2) Likewise, what evidence do you have that accurate reports of what’s happening in Iraq have gone anywhere to increase the morale of the insurgents? Every leader of every side in every war (or sports contest or political election or corporate strategy session or religious meeting) has a responsibility to psych up his guys from the inside and talk them up to outsiders. As long as the press aren’t making shit up (like you), then that means they’re doing their job. If you want propaganda, move to North fucking Korea, you hideous toad. Remember Superman’s “Truth, Justice and the American Way”? A free people deserves, and must demand, the Truth. Accept no substitutes! Take a good look at yourself in the mirror– what perverse twists have you perpetrated upon your own brain to get to the point where you’re actually encouraging public officials to lie even more than they already do?! Orwell is spinning in his grave, sonny. Not to mention that W & co. aren’t the sort to let a good opportunity to lie go to waste.
The insurgency in Iraq is largely made up, as Rummy said, of “dead-enders”– former Baathist Sunnis who are now Shit Outta Luck, with nothing to lose except the many tons of ordnance that they took with them. They have had continued success doing what they do against us. They can’t “win” anything decisively, cuz they’re never getting back in power. All they wanna do is fuck shit up, which doesn’t require much in the way of morale-boosting. The relatively few jihadis there also have their own MO’s. Or is Fox News aiding and abetting them every time they put up Zarqawi ‘s picture and say what an evil bastard he is?

    3) Exactly which “press” reports are so down on our doings in Iraq? Who has bothered to use the word “quagmire” lately? (It’s so six-months-ago, get with it!) Everyone is being pretty patient, as far as I have seen, about the handover to Iraqi troops. It’s not about “winning” or “losing” anymore– as if we could even recognize when those happened, since the mission there has been extremely vague beyond deposing Saddam– it’s only a matter of when we’re gonna significantly reduce our troop strength there, not if.

    4) The fighters in-country on both sides know what’s going on around them. They’re not stupid, especially with the internet and world-wide media outlets. The bad guys aren’t watching frickin’ CNN and Jon Stewart– I’m sure they have their own myspace pages, podcasts and blogs now. That was a little joke, but you know what I mean. Al-Jazeera, etc. will say what they will say no matter what US media are saying. Aren’t they teaching you anything useful in Int’l Relations school?

  8. ok, who is here masquerading as Gus? Because the words posted by the erstwhile Gus above do not jibe with the rants he has posted here before. It’s ok for him to decry the needless waste of American blood for Iraqi oil in a desperate quagmire “oh-so-six-months-ago,” but now it’s no longer a quagmire? Now we’re all patiently awaiting the handover to full sovereignty in Iraq?

Gus the weathervane! The ill winds blowing from Kos must have shifted again.

  9. You couldn’t have made your point with less pictures? Thrown in a T&A shot for fun? (NOT Winston’s – though he obviously has plenty of both.)

    Comment by Mark — June 7, 2006 @ 6:44 pm

  10. “but now it’s no longer a quagmire?”
It may or may not be– my point was that that specific word’s use peaked about 6 months ago. This isn’t about me at all (and as I’m mentioned more than once, I don’t read Kos, etc.), but Mlah’s contention that the MSM is giving comfort to the enemy just by reporting what they are witness to. At this point, everyone has a certain amount of media fatigue about the daily struggle over there. Much of the public has tuned it out completely. No one’s even protesting it anymore, that I know of. Yes, we’re waiting for the handover because there isn’t much else to do, is there? My opinion of the whole endeavour hasn’t changed one bit.
