A Moment in History

Filed under: Politics — mlah @ 1:59 am

if anyone isn’t paying attention, tomorrow W is going to address the nation.

it will be a momentus event for the history of the united states. he is predicted to address illegal immigration tomorrow. some reports say that he will order thousands of national guard troops to the border.

it’s a start

the first step in controling immigration into the us is to control the border. but putting the national guard there is only a short term stop gap measure. the preferred solution would be for the migratory trend to stop. make it hard for the illegal immigrant to find work by fining companies who hire them. and repatriate thos illegals when they are caught. with positive control of our borders, the large fee paid to coyotes will become prohibitive to the average foreign national who is seeking to break the laws of the us and enter this nation illegally.

the real progress i want to see made is the prosecution and jailing of those who sell legal documents like birth certificates and social security cards to illegals. the avaliability of these documents is huge contributor to the problem.

what worries me tomorrow is what w intends to do about the illegals already here. if he gives them ANY kind of amnesty, i’ll be displeased. they broke laws to cross our borders illegally. paid criminals money to facilitate their lawbreaking, which those same criminals use to bankroll larger criminal enterprises. they pay public officials to manufacture false offical documents. then they forge other peoples signatures on these documents.

i don’t want a person to enter this country believing that that is how to get things done in the us.

i want immigrants who immigrate legally. identify specializtions in the workforce that are short, and then allow people to immigrate with those skills. allow them to immigrate legally.

and now i’ll be called a racist again because i dare to have an opinion. no matter how well founded my opinion is in reason, those opposed to a border, and the existance of the us, will reflexively call me a racist.

  1. Hm. Sounds about right. But I’d also like to see 5 year jail sentences for people that knowingly hire illegal immigrants, or that don’t perform adequate checking of documentation.

  2. I haven’t formed a final opinion on this one, yet. It is interesting to see how passionate everyone seems to be though. Especially given the fact that the opinions seems to be split.

  4. mlah, I totally agree with you. Arwen, you must be a cry baby socialist. THESE people are criminals. Would you condone Murder or RAPE? I doubt it but to break any of our laws is just about as bad, including illegal entry into the U.S.. They are not immigrants. Immigrants come into the U.S. by legitimate means. “Illegal Immigrants” is an oxymoron. They are Criminals! As criminals they schould be shipped back to the interior of Mexico or whatever country they come from. Processed before they are evicted and if they repeat they should be jailed for an extended period of time like say 5 or 10 years. They citizens who knowingly hire them shoud be fined severely and on a 2nd convictrion, th;ey too should be jailed!! Very few Canadians come into the U.S. illegally. Thhose who come across the Canadian border are usually from some other country. They too should be treated as Mlah and I have described.

Sir, I stand proudly with you on this point.

  6. I’m ignorant on some of the finer points of this debate but I have questions.

What damage do they do to your society?

Wouldn’t jailing them just burden your already over burdened penal system?

  7. So who watched the speech last night? I think he made some pretty good points, and I’m glad to hear that he’s going to be reinforcing the border… anything’s better than what we have now. What do we have now, anyways? A chain-link fence? How about we build a Great Wall of Texas? Everything’s bigger in Texas!

  8. I don’t think you are a racist Mlah. I think you are discriminating. Discrimination is illegal… Unless sanctioned by equal oportunity employment standards. Then it’s OK.

Did you know that in Ottawa Canada you need to be bi-lingual to get a government job (french/english). Then they give you a bonus for being french… even though you wouldn’t have been hired if you weren’t… but I digress.

  9. Well woo-frickety-hoo for Canada.

I was glad the president stressed the need for immigrants to LEARN FRIGGIN ENGLISH.

  10. Sean,

From the L. A Times (This is just one county):

    1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County (L. A. County has 10
million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

    2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal
    aliens.

    3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are
    illegal aliens.

    4. Over 2/3’s of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

    5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

    6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living
    in garages.

    7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.

    8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.

    9. 21 radio stations in L. A. are Spanish speaking.

    10. In L. A. County 5.1 million people speak English. 3.9
million speak Spanish (10.2 million people in L. A. County).

(All 10 from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States annual population growth (and over 90% of California, Florida, and New York) results from immigration.

The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was a NET(after subtracting taxes immigrants pay) $70 BILLION a year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University].

The lifetime fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

  11. Let’s see, about W’s speach: we’ll make some noises at the border, the Guard will be there until the press starts complaining about how they could be better employed (such as when a hurricane hits the Carolinas) but will not be providing an armed deterrent to the illegals; they will be merely providing intel and surveillance. The border police will be doing business as usual — and that includes ignoring tips from vigilante savages like the Minutemen. So what really changes? This is all fluff for the base to lull them into voting for the GOP in November. But those illegals already here will be granted a simple path to citizenship, because that is what the Senate and the President want, and the new illegals-cum-citizens will be allowed to import their extended families, and we will, within the next 20 years, import an additional 150+ million mainly ill-educated unskilled people from south of the border. That radically changes our demographics — 1/3 of the population not speaking English (because forcing them to learn English is discriminatory and culturally insensitive, and the teacher’s unions won’t go along with that idea), not competative for high tech jobs (which we’ll either have to give them under “nondiscrimination” laws or simply outsource to India anyway), and dependant on the welfare system including social security (which is due for meltdown in about 10 years without all the new beneficiaries).

    Feh.

    You are so cynical, Yup!
Look on the bright side: they’re all Catholics, so they will provide much support for keeping America to minimal abortions and gayness.
