mlah The “culture” that has evolved here isn’t conducive to sissies

i have dishnetwork. i really love the recording function it has. they call it a dvr, but it is increasingly becoming known as tivo. tivo actually does more than my dvr does.

i need the tivo. stations are starting to mees with times their shows start and finish. just a little and not all of the time. just when i want to record.

case in point. f’n local san anotnio pre-empted the amazing race 9 last night for a pre-game to a spurs clippers game. who cares about basketball? i mean, go spurs go! but i have no idea how they’re even doing. i care that much. it pissed me off that my show got preempted, but not that much. i just thumbed through the browser and found TAR9 at 2 in the morning. same channel. so i set it to record.

this morning i try to watch it. it started 10 minutes late. 10 minutes into the timeslot i set it to record. so i didn’t get to see the last ten minutes of the show.

that pissed me off.

fx does this too, almost every week with ‘the shield’. i knew it and adjusted the time recorder accordingly.

why are tv stations messing with me? because ya know, they’re only doing it to me.

  1. I LOVE our Tivo. DO you know you can get a DVD recorder with an optical jack and record the pure digital disk to disk? it’s awesome!

  2. Try using the “plus codes” or smart codes or whatever they’re called for the show you want to record; works a lot better than recording, you know, 8:50 to 10:10 with your fingers crossed. 🙂

The downside to a DVR is that you can easily get to the point where you’re so far behind on stuff you wanted to watch that you just say “screw it”. It can also be a real wake-up call to work overtime every night one week and sit down on Saturday to discover you watch – and recorded – fourteen hours of TV a week…

  3. Dude I can do all of that and more on my computer, and it doesn’t cost anything. I win.

  5. The key is seeting your DVR to record five minutes before and end recording five minutes after.
