New Computer

Filed under: Tech — mlah @ 1:29 am

my old box was acting hokie. so i went down to altex yesterday and fronted the money for some new components.

athlon 64 3200. asus a8v-se (they were out of the deluxe). 2 gigs ram. new 550 power supply (needed the 24 pin).

rebuilding my os right now. the windows update thing takes a while.

so i have 4 computers in my house right now. last night, none of them were working.

my laptop went tango uniform around a month ago. i took it apart last night to verify that i could not fix the power supply on it. that’s what i think the problem is anyway. soon i’ll ship it back to corporate hq and either get a new one, or they’ll fix that one.

my new components weren’t up because i hadn’t bought the new power supplu yet. who knew you’d need a new ps as well. i picked that up today.

my old components would still work in my old box. i just have to reassemble it. i’ll get this up and networked shortly.

and last, my new sun ultra60 still doesn’t have an os yet. i’ve downloaded solaris 10, and will get that up shortly as well.

i’m going to run nis on it, and maybe get samba to bring my windows boxes into the network.

it’s going to be fun!

oh, and my wrist shows some signs of bruising up nicely, i’ll be sure to take some pics for y’all if it does. it’s still really sore, but not really swollen.

  1. An A8V-SE?? Why? Isn’t that an AGP board? What video card are you throwing in there?

  2. Hm. sounds like a nice system. But I must echo MJ’s questioning on the board. Unless you’ve got a kick-butt older vid card and don’t feel like upgrading, PCI-X is the new thing. 🙂
