Russian Mail Order Bride

those of you who actually know me, know that i don’t have a girlfriend (right now). some of you kid me about mailing off to russia for a girl. some of you i kid about mailing off to russia for a blonde.

some of you are appalled at the idea.it’s always been a bit of a joke to me.

i mean, don’t y’all get spam too? or am i the only target of mailorder brides?

i heard a bud light commercial on the radio the other day, y’all know the series. the real men of genius series. there’s a really funny one about ‘mr spf 80 sunblock wearer’. they say that just in case the sun fails to go down, you’ll be prepared. and then that ‘your personal force field keeps out all of the suns rays, and any ambient rays…. from other suns….. in other galaxies.’

it was really funny.

but they had a commercial for ‘mr. mail order bride orderer’ the other day. and then they said ‘most men shop in a catalog for furniture, but you shop in a catalog for someone to clean the furniture’. and that you just smile to yourself as you write out the check for 3,000 dollars (only 3k smacks?!)

i only heard it once.

i think someone made them pull the ad off of the air.

but i had a talk about the whole notion with a coworker.

a girl.

and she mentioned online dating.

email and snailmail. the only difference is speed right?

mail order bride and email order bride. what’s the difference?

i never really knew just how pissed off girls get at the notion of men ordering foreign brides. why?

what exactly is the difference between emailing a girl in chicago and minsk?

and this comes from the same group of people who are ‘open borders’ advocates.

why are people so emphatic about not limiting immigration, but so opposed to the idea of two people hooking up online, across a border. and the obvious question is if i would be pissed if foreigners were emailing american girls to marry them? are they? and i guess no.

seems like it’s ‘ok’ so long as it is done within the u.s..

i wonder if it illicits the same fury if you were to ‘order’ a western european chick.

and no. even though i tease some of y’all about having a stamp and not being afraid to use it. i have no intention of mailing off to omsk for svetlana.

  2. Hm. I think that people think it’s “taking advantage” of the woman who is desperate to escape from whatever situation she’s in by entering into a loveless marriage with someone she’s never met in a foreign country she’s never been to. (But really, I think it’s the woman that’s taking advantage of the guy. But eh. That’s just me.)

Another element of it is probably “What’s wrong with American women? Are you too good for an American woman? Are you into weird kinky stuff that only a subservient woman from another country would put up with? blah blah”.

  3. http://www.loveinromania.com
This is a site that is being advertised to women in Romania who want to converse (leading to love?) with Westerners. More like transcontinental dating than wives for sale. Independent people, not the mafia.
