Go Spurs Gone!

Alanis Morrisette at Spurs game 1 2005

ok ok! i made it back.

here’s a little synopsis

mark called me around 5:45 with the invite.

his wife heather is a spurs cheerleader and she gets little pay. she does get a pair of tickets to all of the games though. so it kind of pisses her off when the seats go empty. she’s an okie, and like all good okies, she doesn’t like wasting things, or working for free either. one of her friends was originally going with mark to the game, but she cancelled at the last minute. her loss, my good fortune. mark stipulated that i had to yell though. i didn’t have a problem with that.

oh, and for those of you ready to talk smack on a blonde cheerleader, she actually has a masters, so think about it before you call names.

we had to be at the game by 7:30. i don’t really know what time the game started. didn’t care.

so i changed shirts into a blue polo, and kept on the khakis i had worn to work. and hauled butt down to mark’s house.

Will Smith at San Antonio Spurs game 1 2005

he drove, which is better because he knew where the hell we were going. i thought we were going to the alamodome. nope. we went to the sbc center (southwestern bell). we made it and parked. oh, heather gets free parking along with the free tickets, which was cool. i tried to slide mark some cash for the ticket and threatened violence. it’s a little bit of an insult to get money for something he gets for free.

our seats were in the nosebleed section. i didn’t care. free is free. no bitchin allowed. mark and heather can view it as pay though. mark’s definitely noticed a continued elevation in his seating assignments.

alanis morrisette sang the national anthem. she just became a naturalized u.s. citizen. that means she didn’t sneak in. welcome her guy hating ass to the country. at least she did it thr right way. she didn’t do anything fancy with the song. no crotch grabbin or anything lewd/disrespectful. she just sang the song. i thought she did well.

then will smith came out and did a little ditty before the game. i took an avi of the thing with my little canon s500 digital camera. not trying to sell cameras. just trying to warn you about the quality. i took the avi with a non-video camera from the nosebleed section. nonetheless, right click and save here (expired). hurry, i won’t leave it up for long. bandwidth considerations and all.

Bryan Adams at the San Antonio Spurs Game 1 2005

then the game started. we had a couple of beers each. only two. we both had to drive at some point later. the spurs fell behind early and had to play catch up for the whole first half. halftime saw them only 2 points back.

bryan adams sang at halftime. the nba hall of famers came out for some applause, i got all misty at seeing the likes of george gervin, dr j, clyde the glide, hakeem olajuwan, the a train and another i can’t remember. i don’t really care, but it’s always cool to see big time personalities. kind of like seeing janet evans pass the torch to ali in atlanta.

then the game restarted. the spurs took the lead at some point and then ‘obi wan ginobili’ came to life. the spurs got out in front and pulled away.

series lead 1-0 for the spurs.

no, i’m not really a basketball fan. but going to virtually any pro game is on my schedule. i love the ‘events’. some people like rock concerts, some people like the ballet or theatre.

take me out to the ballgame.

it didn’t occur to me until i uploaded my pics to my computer that i did not have one single pic of the actual game.

heckling. i mentioned that mark stipulated that i had to yell. i heckled mainly. i cheered for heather a couple of times, which confused people around us. who is this ‘heather’ and which position does she play? anyone that basically gets me tickets to a game has me in their cheering section.

Devout Pistons fan at San Antonio game 1 2005

pistons fans. there were a few there. two actually sat right in front of us. as the game progressed and some people moved around, they moved over a coupl seats. seems they didn’t like our chants of ‘blame canada’ (sorry black mamba, we were just trying to piss off the pistons fans).

there was one guy who was devoted! he wore the jersey and continuosly jumped up and down and cheered. we had to take for most of the game while the pistons lead, but late in the game, he had a ring of people 10-30 yards around him talking serious smack.

nooooooo, i would NEVER talk smack!

anyone want to buy a bridge?

i think the final score was 84-69, spurs.

  3. Eww. You mean you’re one of _those_ people that shoots off cameras with flash whilst in the audience? My lord man, I hate you. :p You’re almost as bad as the flashers in restaurants who insist upon taking picture after picture of people eating, while I’m trying to have a nice flash-free meal. :p
