Blood Drive

Filed under: Whining — mlah @ 11:51 pm

I'm a Mad Cow!

so i got up early this morning and went to a martial arts tournament at san antonio college. downtown.

first thing. i get in my car and start driving. there’s a crazy lady waving at me. seems she’s actually the apartment manager, ….

and she wants my blood.

they’re running some kind of a blood drive.

my first response is no, y’all probably don’t want my blood, what with all of the supplements i take.

she assures me that it’s ok. and then mentions that the blood is earmarked for delivery to florida.

i’m a sucker.

so i spent 45 minutes trying to fill out all of the forms that they have, just to give blood.

it was really starting to piss me the hell off. but i bit my tongue, and persevered. it was after all going to florida.

then i got the the human interview part. that was fun.

some poor old spanish lady got to ask me about my sexual past. 😉

this is for charity remember. it was quite entertaining!

have you ever been to, or had sex with somebody from an african nation?

have you ever, since 1977, paid for, or been paid for sex? or with anybody from an african nation? (i wish somebody was paying me for sex!)

there were lots of nice questions.

they deferred my blood. and not because i was at high risk for aids. i passed all that crap. 😉

seems i lived in europe for more than 6 months. no big deal huh? but as someone who lived in spain for almost 6 years, my blood is now taboo. the fda is worried that my blood might have a little bit of the ‘vaca loca’ lying dormant in it.

that’s mad cow desease for all you maryland types.

so, all of y’all may have been right after all. maybe i’m not just a little touched. maybe i really am a little ‘mad’. not a cow though.

  1. Thanks for the nice random post. thats my favorite kind. did you make it to the tournament? did you find any good schools down there?

  2. I gave blood once in high school. They asked those same sex questions. When they got to the 1977 part I said “In 1977 I was 3.” The quesion asker said “Yeah, you probably were, but I still have to ask.” That as the last time I ever gave blood.

  3. I don’t do it anymore – not since I read a report about the Red Cross selling donated blood for a profit. See, I thought if I donated the blood then it would be given to someone for free. No way Jose. They charge for it and will sell it to the highest bidder – like any good business. Your blood likely wouldn’t be trucked to Florida – it would go in “a blood account” – the Red Cross would have “credits” they could use for blood that was donated on their behalf. Or they would sell it and use the money for other forms of relief. Not bad really, but I don’t like the fact that the whole process isn’t transparent.

I probably can’t donate anyway. I’ve been to Africa (though I didn’t have sex) and I’ve lived in Europe. Oh well.

  4. Oh yes, it seems that if you’ve been in the military for more than a day, you’ll be excluded from ever being able to donate blood, because most assuredly your ass will be sent somewhere where the cows have been sick. So you come home, and you can no longer assist your fellow American.

    Nice, eh?
